Through the power of the arts SoulFLY is devoted to creating content that liberates the stories of women of color from the page and propels society to soar beyond its current state of being.
WHO WE ARE
SoulFLY is a grassroots entertainment company specializing in curating and producing theatre and film pieces that evoke change.
“Our stories weren’t being told and opportunities to expand our resumes in the Washington, DC area were scarce.”
SoulFLY was founded in 2008 by Cynthia L. Dorsey and Allycia Atania. Cynthia and Allycia started their journey together as actors in the DC area while attending the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Throughout their time as artists in DC, Cynthia and Allycia saw a dire need for more opportunities for women of color to share their gifts with the community at large.
“Our stories weren’t being told and opportunities to expand our resumes in the Washington, DC area were scarce,” Cynthia recalls. This need birthed arts activism in Cynthia and Allycia. On April 17, 2009 they produced their first show,
The Vagina Monologues, at the Women’s National Democratic Club. This event raised money to contribute to organizations fighting to stop violence against women and girls. Today SoulFLY has proudly produced several plays, films, podcasts, and new media content. SoulFLY also serves the Washington, DC arts community by providing high quality arts education workshops and training.
